Ruffy's Tale

The story of Ruffy and his challange to redecorate the house! Discover the process, problems and solutions of Ruffy's Tale development!

Year :

2025

Industry :

Videogames

Client :

Tactile Games

Project Duration :

8 weeks

Problems:

The idea was simple: Replicate the Tsuki Odyssey, give it a new story, a new Lootbox System, and challange us to make a technically complex project.

Main Problems:

  1. The Grid: Understanding the functionality and the technicality of the grid was the huge problem in this project.

  2. The Lootbox System: I wanted to implement and innovate on the Lootboxes Systems.

  3. The Code Documentation: We wanted to make a whole technical documentation about the code, but the developers were to bussy with the grid system and other features, so I had to make the documentation.

Solutions:

Besides the particular solutions, I played a lot Tsuki Odyssey in order to get a detailed analysis of the features and the story progression.

Main Problem Solutions:

  1. The Grid: The DEV's reached the solution, but while I didn't have any other task I studied the grid functionality, look for tutorials and documentation and give it to the DEV's if I think it was significant.

  2. The Lootbox System: I designed a lootbox system where players can select a color (Grey, Green, Blue, Violet, Yellow) and based on the color put a percentage of it on the pack, so the percentage of rarity on the opening depends on the colors that player putted on (E.G.: If a player puts 100 Yellows, will get a 100% chance of a yellow item) This system reward players that grinds the colors in order to get a better item, they spend more time on the game; also they can take risks and they can buy colors on a shop with IAP's.

  3. The Code Documentation: In order to solve this I downloaded the C# Scripts from the project and trained a ChatGPT Custom to make a document of each script, after a task was done I put the text on a general document. Note: Nowadays, Claude Code has a function to do this, but at that moment this AI wasn't able.

Summary:

Ruffy's Tale was a very ambitious project, we achieve a perfectly functional prototype, but we needed more time in order to reach an MVP, so we decided to continue with other projects.

It was a very nice experience to develop this project, the client was surprised with the lootbox system, and we learned a lot of things that helped us to develop the future projects.
